caught in the jaws of the media conglomerate

you could say paragraphs, read and recite speeches, but still cannot say three little words.

curse your QR-coded grin and carefully curated

persona mirrored in the studio’s glass panes.

i wish i could recognize

the plastic figure on the tv screen.

~

you lick your lemonade lips before you grin

with the sound of sizzling sausages in the background.

i like how you tilt

your head back and laugh at the sun.

~

strange that you can pose every single question

in interviews with strangers when you don’t even dare to ask

yourself if you’re truly happy. live on air, natural words filter

directly through your mouth via the all-knowing teleprompters —

without a script, you’re at a loss for words. you could say

paragraphs, read and recite speeches, but still cannot say

three little words:

i have loved.
